Mr. Anees Jillani is the founding partner of the law firm, Jillani & Hassan. Mr. Jillani is presently licensed to practice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and all the High Courts in the country and he is a member of the Washington, DC Bar.

Mr. Jillani has been practicing law for the past 28 years and has extensive experience in oil & gas law, corporate law, labor law, family law, civil law, international and human rights law, drafting contracts, and civil trial practice.

An avid writer, Mr. Jillani has written several books, and numerous articles on politics and human rights, published both locally and internationally.

Mr Jillani is fluent in English and Urdu and has the following degrees:

  • Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, United States of America
  • Master of Letters in Strategic Studies from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom
  • Master of Science in International Relations from Quaide Azam University, Pakistan
Publications:

Mr Anees Jillani has been writing in several newspapers in Pakistan, India and other South Asian countries, for the past two decades on issues involving politics, international relations, social sector, child rights and human rights.

He has also written several books, including

  • Advance Towards Democracy which is a book regarding politics in Pakistan up to 1990.

  • Child Labor: The Legal Aspects which is the first book on the subject of child labor and covering all the laws relating to this issue.
  • Cries Unheard: Juvenile Justice in Pakistan which is again the first major book covering the subject of children coming into conflict with law, with a detailed analysis of the relevant laws.

  • Child Rights in Pakistan which is co-authored with Ms Zarina Jillani and apart from talking about the issue of child rights also talks about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • UN Convention on the Rights of the Child & the Laws of Pakistan which was the first publication in Pakistan on the subject of the Convention written for UNICEF and played a major role in early signing of it by the Government. It has been re-printed a couple of times since its first publication.

  • Surgery Without Anesthesia: The Partition of India which is edited by Mr Jillani and contains experiences of people undergoing partition at the time of independence.
  • Lengthening Shadows: Poverty-Affected Children, co-edited with Ms Sarwat Shah, contains chapters written by various experts on the subject of poverty in the context of children in Pakistan.

  • Legal Analysis of Orphanages in Pakistan is a book written by Mr Jillani for Save the Children UK and is the first publication on this subject, particularly in the context of orphanages.
  • Child Labor in South Asia is edited by Mr Jillani and contains chapters on issues covering child labor with special reference to South Asia.

  • Child Labor in Islamabad, co-authored with Ms Sarah Javed is a book based on a survey of child laborers in Islamabad.
